“Zimbale” is a frame, bicycle parts & accessories brand which experts in each field and bicycle riding manias launch in the world market with common targets of “Beyond Your Expectation!” and “Value for Price” on the basis of long-term experiences.”
However you translate it, Korean manufacturer Zimbale have done their homework. Here we look at three of their saddlebags.
Though the company begins by comparing itself to other leading brands like Carradice and Ortlieb—a mistake in any business—these bags are not quite in the same league as Carradice; neither the leather straps or canvas are of the same quality …. close, but not quite.
However, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy any of these, especially the latter, available in 7, 11, and 18 litre capacity. I especially like the quick-release straps, making for easy access to the main compartment without fiddling with buckles. The main compartment has a drawstring and all sizes have an extendable flap (like larger Carradice “Longflap” models) to fit oversize loads.
Like most larger saddlebags, these will benefit from some kind of stabilization and spacing from a rack or “Bagman,” especially if using the accessory camera protection insert.
The smaller 2.3 ltr.canvas “Seatpouch,” is just the right size for a flat repair kit and rain jacket. It attaches with two leather straps.
The full leather bags compare favourably with, say, Brooks leather saddlebags (mostly made in China). They are attractive and well made. The 2 and 3 ltr. “Leatherbag” deserves particular mention for design and execution, although one oversight leaves the side pouch—meant to fit a cellphone—a shade too small for an iPhone.
The bag features a detachable shoulder strap and easy-to-use slider clips, again enabling access without undoing buckles. These can be used as a saddle- or handlebar bag.
