“We feel that British Columbia, like every other province could benefit and should have a holiday around August 1. We feel that the holiday should be dedicated to the pioneers who built the colony of British Columbia into the great province it is today…” ~Hon. Ernie Hall:Â 4th Session, 30th Parliament, May 1, 1974 (Bill 61 — became The British Columbia Day Act, R.S.B.C. 1996 c.34)
Happy British Columbia Day! Here’s hoping you are out enjoying the wonders of this land.
The photo-gallery below — spanning 30 years — is my way of celebrating with you some of the sacred places I have visited on forays to the four corners of the province.
I hope these reflections might be a reminder of what is worth defending, that future generations of British Columbians might also explore and enjoy the immense diversity of landscapes — mountain, desert and sea — we have been blessed to inherit.
I also hope that visitors (to this site as well as to BC) might take with them a small sense of the grandeur and intrinsic value of this region in its whole, aside from any other consideration.
Let us honour what we have called “Beautiful BC.”

So, Quebec is different to BC. But I suggest that Dawson Creek is different to Vancover; Chicoutimi is different to Montreal, and so forth. And the Newfoundland out ports are different to everything.
