All the credit this week goes to VeloWeb readers who responded to last week’s call for submissions. Their superb content has not only allowed me to concentrate on other projects—video and book editing for upcoming pages—but has added immeasurably to this site in its own right.
I’ve recently been encouraged to see a growing number of cargo bikes on the street (as captured on my iPhone above) so I was excited to have Shane Kapcala offer to describe his new super cargo bike. I popped over to photograph his beautiful machine last weekend, and he promptly delivered the text the next day. The results are now part of the Readers’ Commuter bikes page.
Similarly, a couple of randonneurs responded offering their rando bikes for the Readers’ Rando Bikes gallery. The first, a Box Dog Bike from John McGillivray, hit the (Word)presses early this morning.
Last but not least, expedition tourer Conor Ahern has joined us from Ireland to help launch the new Readers’ Touring Bikes page. A few years back, Conor and I spent a few wonderful, sun-drenched days—the first decent weather in weeks—cruising the Yellowhead Highway, across British Columbia, after repeatedly bumping into one another from Whitehorse, Yukon, to Meziadin, B.C.
We exchanged a few post cards afterwards, then lost contact, as Conor took up residence in the States, then returned to his native Ireland, a married man.
One day, a couple of years back, Conor was, I guess, Googling the Internets and came upon my photo of himself on VeloWeb’s Touring home page. It may be wide, but it’s a small world on the Web.
